People who have an unhealthy relationship with food and their body need more than just to "eat the right amount," "be good," or "find the right diet." There is more than just will-power involved in change.
Some need help setting goals and sticking to them. For them, a support group or personal coach may be the support they need.
For many, there are underlying issues, emotional hurts, past traumatic events/injuries, or deeply held beliefs that need attention. If these are not addressed, a genuine and full life is not possible - and a new relationship with food and body cannot be attained. Therapy creates the safe and challenging place you need to foster insight, awareness, change and healing
Do you want to:
Are these thoughts true for you...
I weigh myself several times a day.
I am always looking for the next weight-loss diet.
I am terrified of foods with fat or of gaining weight.
I eat only diet foods and always know the caloric content of my meals.
I eat to manage negative feelings.
I go on binges where I feel out of control, like I can't stop eating.
I vomit or use laxatives after I have eaten to get rid of the food.
I feel guilty when I eat.
I eat in secret or hide food.
Thoughts of food, my body or my weight interfere with my life.
I want a new relationship with food or my body.
If you can agree with any of the above statements, please use the following resources and links to learn more about your eating behaviors or take the EAT-26 developed by David Garner.
