A practical guide to the consultation, privacy, fit, fees, and what you do—or do not—need to prepare.

Beginning therapy can feel unusually personal before you have even met the therapist. A free consultation is a short conversation about what brings you in, what you hope may change, and whether the therapist's approach, language, availability, and scope fit what you need.

You do not need a polished explanation or a complete history. It is enough to describe what has been difficult lately. You can also ask practical questions about virtual sessions, confidentiality, fees, receipts, scheduling, and how individual, couples, or family work may differ.

For online therapy, choose a private place where you can speak freely and use a reliable internet connection when possible. Sessions at RealHelp Therapy are held through Jane App for clients located in Ontario and are available in English and Mandarin.

A consultation is not a commitment to continue. Its purpose is to clarify fit and the next useful step. If another service would be more appropriate, that can be discussed openly too.
